What Prompted Me To Write My Own Blog

I have been teaching for nearly 5 years now and throughout that time I have been constantly looking at ways in which I could improve my teaching and learning. Up until recently I have been using staff within my school, published papers and books to inform any changes to my teaching style I have deployed with some success, but have found that some of the advice given did not feel like it applied to me. It felt like the writer didn't know what they were talking about or had not been in a classroom for some time, much like the CPD I found I was experiencing in school.

In February 2012 I attending a number of twilight inset sessions lead by Curee on becoming a peer coach within my school for other teachers, and this started to spark something in me. We then began a peer coaching program within school with myself as one of the coaches on it, later in the year we had a inset session where people shared their good practice with other members of staff. That's when it clicked, the staff there presenting their teaching and learning action research, were in the classroom now, were teaching the students I teach. I found I was able to relate to much more of what those staff said and see how much more of it could be applied to my own teaching and learning to improve it.

I caught the bug big style I wanted to constantly strive to improve my teaching and learning and wanted to hear what other teachers from around the country were doing and realised maybe I had something to offer too. That's when I turned to twitter and realised there were lots of other staff in my position wanting to do the same, but not only in the UK around the world. I started reading some peoples blogs and thought I should do this. So here I am with my own blog random mumblings about what I am doing within teaching and learning in my role as an Assistant Head of Sixth Form and PE teacher.
